NCSA Dashboard Onboarding
NCSA wanted to introduce more features to its free users through a redesigned dashboard. For this project, I was tasked with writing the onboarding flow.
Strategy
With guidance from product stakeholders, I started by outlining copy goals and determining the hierarchy of highlighted features. I made sure to take into account NCSA’s helpful voice and consider the tone variance of the flow.
User Interviews
I performed three user interviews using open-ended questions to acquire qualitative feedback and set a foundation for editing the initial copy provided by stakeholders.
Next, I drafted a second version of the flow based on user interview feedback and copy goals. Afterwards, I composed a preference test with flow samples presented in a nominal forced-response survey to a convenience-sampled group.
Finally, I used to the findings to present a researched, intuitive, and engaging version of the onboarding flow.
The result was a significant lift across a variety of metrics, including searches, Favorites, and page views.
However, we saw a decrease in assessment requests. We tackled this issue by following up with a project that added more buttons and microcopy at different touchpoints to significantly increase assessment requests.
